Taken in the early morning, I made my way to the National Arboretum in Canberra, hoping to capture the first light of day. As the sun began its horizon, the sky light up in a dramatic show of reds, oranges, and golds, casting a fiery glow over the landscape. The sloping hills of the Arboretum led down towards the cityscape in the distance. The surrounding lakes, including Lake Burley Griffin, mirrored the sky’s fiery colours.
I composed the shot to emphasise the vast openness of the landscape while allowing the illuminated sky to take center stage.
